Lost Underneath – Arthur

”Mother, Mother!” He called, searching every room in the house, “where are you all?”

A shadow darted past the window.

Tears leaked from his eyes as he checked the rooms again and again. Running to the door, he made made sure their water suits were still hanging up. They were, but what had happened to his mum, dad, seventeen other brothers, and sister? Racking his brains to remember what had happened the night before, a murky image raced swiftly past. He chucked on his suit, fastened the air-mouthpiece and punched in the code to depressurise the door, letting it swing open.

A huge creature swam forward with an unimaginable surge of speed, forcing the boy to to leap to the side. It glided away. Thinking it was gone, he paddled in the other direction, trying to reach the surface. His mother had warned him about Land Goers, and how all Aqua citizens should be afraid of them. He had never been above the surface before and was pondering going back to wait for his family to return.

He peered down; the same monster-fish was chasing him. Screaming and letting to much air from his tank, he swam, frantically upwards. It was no good the fish was hot on his tail. Its gaping mouth was ready to crunch down on his puny body.

Black walls encrusted with with yellow bricks enclosed around him. A blood red, lumpy carpet rolled up one side. It kept rising until he was in a curling tunnel bashing from side to side.

Finally, he fell into a shallow pool. He was stuck inside a fish’s stomach! And, huddled in the corner were the rest of his family.

The end.

This has the feel of Alex Rider about it but then came the end – not a heroic rescue but his doom?
    Good tension Arthur.

A dark story, Arthur. You keep the story moving along at an exciting pace, building the tension.

Always worth checking through before posting though. There’s a couple of word repeats. Minor stuff, it still makes a great read.
